From a Field Near San Miguel, CA –
It really doesn’t get much better than this, does it? Mooed a cow in a field near San Miguel, CA. Wow, we have just got it so good here.”
They say: “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence”, “but let me tell you, I’ve been to the other side of the that fence over there, and guess what? The grass is not nearly as delicious as right here! Man, we’ve got it good!”
“Call me an optimist, but I just don’t think things can get any better than in this field right here, right now. It’s like we’re just so in the moment, but it’s just so real. Can you taste the sweetness when codding, re-barfing and ruminating again? Wow! It doesn’t get any better!”
Life is sweet, what can I say? I’ve got my calf right here, he’s really healthy and he’s just loving life. Why wouldn’t he love it here? we have a fence to protect us from predators from the outside. Nobody ever seems to grow old here.” “Is this heaven?”
“Recently, for extra safety and protection, the humans added a jolting shock to the fence to it to make us extra safe from those who would wish to do us harm from the outside. “They care so much they give us tags to make sure we can come back if we ever get lost., talk about compassion. They’ve thought of everything.”
Who would have thunk that I would be going on two years old, having lived a long and fulfilling life with literally everything I need to survive supplied to me and I don’t have to lift a hoof? I mean, does it get any better than this?”
Most of the day, as I’m grazing, I’m just thinking: “Wow, I’ve got it good.” I just kind of do what I want when I want to do it, and that mainly consists of eating a lot of grass, I try and find the sweeter fresh growth clumps if possible, sometimes a trip to the water trough and then take a big dump five, six, even seven times a day, and then I go to sleep, wake up, and do it all over again!
The humans care about us a lot. You can tell. When we run out of grass, they make sure to bring in some hay or Sorghum or other grains. No strings attached! When the grass runs out I like to say: “Hay, it could be worse!” (I made that one up, what can I say, It’s a Steer Joke).
Sometimes the human who looks after all our needs has to use an electrical stick to get someone to do something, but that’s just because we need order to keep everything running as smoothly as it does around here.” I completely understand the purpose, no harm, no foul! Let’s get everybody doing what they need to do!”
“Living like this gives me a lot of time to ponder the bigger things that are going on around me: Like: “Are those birds going to be coming back today?” “What are those things that keep zipping past the outside of the fence all day long? and.. What’s that large metal ramp thing?” There’s just so much positive stuff to think about” “We are so blessed.”
“It kind of makes you wonder: “Am I being worshiped right now?” I mean, why else on Earth would I get treated this well? “Do these people revere me as some sort of God?” I suppose it’s possible, there really isn’t any better explanation for what’s going on here.”
“As the sun slowly sets over a green hillside, the bright-orange ball disappearing behind the field, I watch another beautiful day come to an end, with an even better one coming tomorrow. With my calf by my side today, and forever, I think to myself once again: “Man we’ve got it good, and it’s only getting better.”
